Xeno-who?  Xenoestrogens pronounced zenoestrogens.  Yes, it is an actual word.  And you are probably wondering why I am writing a blog post about it.  Well, here we go…

I have always been an avid skincare user and always recommend skincare products to my clients because it is a very important factor when wanting your makeup to look flawless.  I receive questions all the time about which skincare and makeup products are beneficial for the skin to give it the most radiant glow and to help with the aging process.  Truth is, I have always had a love for skincare going back to my early teens when I used to get dryer skin in the winter months and an occasional break out.  Always on the hunt for affordable products from the drugstore that would give that added glow to my skin, although my aunt always told me I had skin like porcelain.

There I found myself in my early teens down the skincare aisle in Rite Aid looking for products to cater to what I needed in a moisturizer.  Testing various products from Ponds, Oil of Olay, Aveeno, just to name a few.  Naturally, I would then find myself down the makeup aisle.  Oh the wonderful makeup aisle, where I could spend over an hour just looking at all the makeup products, reading the labels, the ads for the companies, and of course purchasing some!  But, back in the 90’s the drugstores did not allow you to return products after they were opened so I had to really make sure that the color of the foundation I was getting or the concealer was the exact shade I needed!  And there went my money from my babysitting jobs on a beauty product(s) that would turn out to be a passion of mine!

Now lets get back to xenoestrogens lol.  Xenoestrogens are man made chemical compounds which mimic the effects of the estrogen in the human body, also known as endocrine disruptors.  If you follow me on youtube you have probably been hearing me say this word a lot the last few months.  These estrogenic effects can interfere with our bodies’ normal hormonal activities and produce adverse health effects on women, men, and children.  Our skin is the largest organ on our bodies.  Therefore, anything we put on it goes directly into our system.  In turn, causing a major uproar internally and the outcome is way more serious than you can imagine.  There is published research that shows links to increased risk of breast, prostate, and reproductive cancers; thyroid dysfunction, infertility, early puberty in children, menstrual irregularities, endometriosis, heart disease, and other disorders.  WHAT!!! Yep you read right!  Not something I want to put on my face and body!!!

Little did I know that the journey I was about to embark on was going to have such a huge impact in my life.  As the years passed, I applied various skincare and makeup products, generously, to myself every single day.  And I was also unaware that the beauty industry has not been regulated since 1938!  Yes, you read right, 1938!!  Which means, many of the products we use on a daily basis have been posing some type of threat not only to our skin but our entire bodies, and if you have an autoimmune disorder, these ingredients will escalate it!  Due to the lack in regulations; the beauty industry is not forced to comply with many safety standards.  A little overwhelming, right?  Not to worry, I have been dedicating a lot of time to this topic so that I can make it easy for all of you to make changes!

I was very overwhelmed at first, when learning about xenoestrogens.  Truth is, I was in complete shock! I read a list of ingredients that were posing a threat to my health that I was using every single day.  (I have a whole blog post about why I changed to non-toxic products.  Click this to read why!)

The four major personal care ingredients that contain xenoestrogens and other terribe stuff are:

  1. Parabens
  2. Sodium lauryl (laureth) sulfates (SLS)
  3. DEA (diethanolamine)
  4. Propylene glycol

If you are very overwhelmed you want to start with removing those four from your skincare, makeup and body products.  But, if you are like me and dive in, all or nothing, then this is the entire list you are going to use as a guide:

  1. Artificial colors
  2. Artificial fragrances
  3. Benzene
  4. Bisphenol A
  5. DEA 9diethanolamine), MEA (monoethanolamine), and TEA (triethanolamine)
  6. Dimethicone
  7. EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid)
  8. Formaldehyde
  9. Gluten
  10. GMOs (genetically modified organisms)
  11. Hydrogenated oils
  12. Mineral Oil
  13. Parabens
  14. Petrolatum
  15. Plastics/pthalates
  16. Polyethylene glycols (PEGs) or 1,4-dioxane
  17. Polyvinyl chlorides (PVCs)
  18. Propylene Glycol
  19. Silicates
  20. Silicones
  21. Sodium lauryl (or laureth) sulfates (SLSs)
  22. Wheat

Now for the fun stuff!  You’re probably saying “what fun stuff” when you have just read a long list of ingredients that you are probably using everyday that are causing an uproar to your health.  I’ve done my research and have found that there are some really good beauty brands on the market.  One imparticular company that I have been using myself the last few months is Beautycounter.  I love that they are making products that are actually ok to use!  They have a Never List that is made up of over 1500chemical ingredients they do NOT use as their ingredients!

Join me on this journey into safer beauty products!  Once you start making adjustments to the products that you use daily you will see that your skin will start to look less dull or tired.  The lit from within glow is possible by eliminating the xenoestrogens.  I can guide you down the right path.  Feel free to comment down below or email me with any questions!  Oh and dont forget, knowledge is power – SHARE THIS POST to all of your social media!
