Put Your Best Face Forward

I hope all of you are enjoying the New Year.  Most of you have started your resolution and are in the beginning stages of it.  Those around me, including myself, start the New Year off with eating healthier or try to cleanse and/or rid their bodies of toxins in order to get their skin glowing.  I took some time today to discuss beneficial and easy ways of incorporating certain foods into your daily intake that doesn’t require teeth-gritting determination, just a little understanding.

Many times I am told that I have beautiful skin and then right after that I’m asked “What do you do to get such beautiful skin?”  Well, today I am going to let you in on some of the things that work for me.  There is only so much that skincare products can do.  I have a daily skincare regimen that I implement everyday to keep my skin looking and feeling clean and smooth.  But, if you are not eating right and consuming foods that are high in fats and carbs AND low in vegetables and protein, I can promise you your skin will mimic the bad foods.  Remember, you are what you eat.

You may be saying to yourself, “But, I don’t want to diet!” or “I don’t know where to start!”.  The key is not to overload yourself with new fancy regimens.  Start small!  By making small changes, you will have big results!  You may notice that I frequently talk about smoothies, and how delicious and wonderful they are but also how many vitamins and minerals are in them that will bring out the best in your skin.  I like smoothies so much because they are fast and easy.  For me, it’s all about balance, having energy, and bringing out that inner glow.  In my latest YouTube Video you will see what I do on a daily basis.  I discuss my love for super foods such as chia seeds, goji berries, coconut oil, almond milk and much more.

Now you’re probably asking yourself why is she speaking about nutrition if she is a makeup artist.  Well, beautiful makeup starts with beautiful skin.  And beautiful skin comes from within.  If you feel that your skin is dull and tired looking, there is only so much that skincare products and makeup can do!

So here you have it!  Beauty foods that I love that you can incorporate into your daily regimen that will help get you on your way to beautiful skin:

  1. Chia Seeds:  I first learned about chia seeds over a year ago.  And now I’ve made them a staple in my home, consuming them every day.  Chia seeds are a complete protein that have been around since the Aztecs.  The benefits of chia seeds is that they are a rich source of Omega-3’s, protein, calcium and antioxidants which are excellent for your skin.  The great thing about them is they expand into a gel like substance when ingested, which keeps you fuller longer, and helps keep cravings at bay – this way you don’t snack on the bad stuff that is not good for your skin.
  2. Goji Berries:  These little berries are a Himalayan super fruit that have been around for over 2000 years.  They contain an abundance of antioxidants which are great for your skin and your overall health.  Goji Berries include vitamins and minerals such as A, C, E, Iron, and they are high in astaxanthin, and antioxidant known as “natural sunscreen” that helps reverse and protect the skin from sun damage.
  3. Coconut Oil:  There are many uses for coconut oil when it comes to beauty!  This oil is digested differently than other oils because it is a type of saturated fat that is broken down and converted into energy in the body.  The monolaurin in coconut oil helps eliminate bad bacteria from the body!  It’s sweet and nutty taste will leave you feeling tropical and make sure to purchase Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil.
  4. Almond Milk: Almonds are among the healthiest nuts in the world, and what better way to get the nutritional content of almonds than with their milk.  It is lower in calories and sugar than skim milk.  Almond Milk contains 50% of the recommended daily amount of Vitamin E and also contains Vitamin B2 and Vitamin B3 (also known as Niacin).  The benefits of almond milk is that these are essential to your skins health because they help the tissues of the skin to use oxygen, aiding in circulation and hydration!  I prefer Unsweetened Original Almond Milk.

Remember there is no right way or wrong way to incorporate healthy foods into your daily regimen!  Put your best face forward this New Year and do what works for you!  You can see more about this and how I whip up a delicious smoothie here:
